Symbolism & Meaning
A cloaked figure descends a staircase leaving the eight cups behind them. This card usually appears at a time of change. If something is stagnant and no longer serving you then it may be time to leave it behind. By letting go of these things you can create space for something better to come into your life. Follow your heart and intuition.
How the Eight of Cups is Relevant to Me
So I gave my notice to my full time employer. I had an occupational health review where they basically said I couldn’t return to that job until February 2027 at the earliest. I had already decided that I wont be returning to work full time at all so returning to this role was unlikely anyway. I am no longer receiving SSP so there is no financial benefit to staying on. They have been really supportive whilst I have been off and I did really enjoy the job, even though I was only there for a very short time. It doesn’t seem fair to them or me to keep going through the motions of sending fit notes and having monthly wellness checks. Like the Eight of Cups says, if it no longer serves you, let it go.
Our circumstances have changed and the reasons for taking this job are no longer relevant. Financially, we are a good few years ahead of where we wanted to be and physically, I just can’t manage a regular job anyway. My hand has been forced but that has led me to reevaluate and change my perspective on things. I do need to create space for my new business and the wheels are very much in motion.
As always, I need to have the confidence in myself that I am producing a product worth investing in.
