What is Tarot?

Tarot is a deck of 78 glorious cards broken up into two sections. 22 cards make up The Major Arcana and the other 56 make up the Minor Arcana.

The Major Arcana are what I call the “heavier” cards. I don’t mean heavy in a negative way, I just mean that if they come up in your reading, you need to listen and really dig deep, focus and be honest with yourself. Some of cards in the Major Arcana can be perceived as the “scary” cards. The main examples that come to mind are Death and The Devil.

I don’t believe any of the cards are negative. If one of these cards comes up in your reading, don’t be scared. It is often an indicator that great change is needed. It may not be easy but it will be for a good reason. emoti

The Minor Arcana is divided up into four suits, Cups, Wands, Swords and Pentacles.

Cups are all about emotions, intuition, relationships and the subconscious mind. Associated with the element of Water and the astrological water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces), this Minor Arcana suit tracks our inner life, romantic feelings, and spiritual connections.

Wands represent passion, ambition, creativity and action. Associated with the element of Fire, this suit governs your primal energy, drive, willpower, and the spark of new beginnings. In readings, Wands focus on your career, goals, and the pursuit of your true purpose. They draw influence from Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Swords represent the mind, intellect, logic and communication. Associated with the element of Air and zodiac signs Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, these cards deal with thoughts, attitudes, and conflicts. Swords symbolise a double-edged sword—they bring clarity and truth, but also anxiety and hardships.

Pentacles (often called Coins or Disks) represent the material and physical realms of life. Governed by the element of Earth, it focuses on tangibles: finances, career, wealth, health, and physical environments. These cards emphasise manifestation, long-term security, and the practical results of your labour.

The main thing you will get from me is honesty, please don’t come to me if you want things sugar coated. I have learnt that I can handle anything as long as I know the truth. It’s the dishonesty and subtle mistruths that people tell that do the most damage. I think that is why I love the tarot. When I sit down with my cards I know that I am going to be able to focus on true insight and intuition. I would love to help you do the same.
