Symbolism & Meaning
This card shows an angel standing with one foot on land and one in water. The land represents the physical world and the water represents the unconcious or spiritual realm. Our angel pours water from one cup into another containing fire. This, along with the land and water symbolises the combination of opposites. In Latin, “temperãre” means to blend, restrain or temper. In Italian, it means to sharpen a pencil or toughen materials like metal or glass. In modern English, the definition of “temperance” is moderation and restraint. There are many elements to this card but it encourages you to bring all elements of your life together. You may be feeling like your balance is off or that you have multiple things going on that you have to deal with. If none of these are negotiable, it is ok to do them all, just be aware of the Temperance message and do everything in moderation.
How Temperance is Relevant to Me
As I sit here on our beautiful narrowboat, surrounded by water and nature, I need to remind myself that she is ours now and we can take our time. I have written before about how I am always happy when I have multiple projects on the go. I am very fortunate that the life I am trying to create is totally in my control. It will take time and it certainly will not be easy but it 100% feels within reach. Because I am an all or nothing kind of person, I do tend to get carried away and the desire to put our stamp on Message as quickly as possible is strong. Today we will potter about taking measurements and photos so that we can go away and put a plan together.
It will be hard to leave Message later to go to our other home. I need to remain patient and continue to be grateful for having this beautiful boat in our lives.
