Symbolism & Meaning
A figure walks towards an unknown woodland leaving a trail of broken cups behind them. Although some of them are still whole, he is not sure if they are worth keeping. He doesn’t know what is ahead but it has to be better than what he is leaving behind. By letting go of what no longer serves you, you can create space for more fulfilling opportunities. If you have been holding onto a certain set of ideals, now is the time to think about what is actually important and what is holding you back. You may feel sadness about the things you are leaving behind or you may feel liberated. Whichever one it is, trust your intuition and take a leap into the unknown.
How The Eight of Cups is Relevant to Me
I have mentioned that I have been going through a bit of emotional rollercoaster lately. The trauma of the accident has brought loads of emotional crap to the surface and I have had a hard time understanding why. I am a big one for symbolism though and I think I am using the boat purchase as a symbol of what will be the next stage of our lives. It is also going to be the biggest financial commitment I have ever made. This scares me and has triggered my fight or flight reflex. Combine this with my overthinking tendencies and you are left with one giant melting pot of anxiety. Everything I need to let go of is emotional baggage of my own making. There is no logical reason for why I am holding onto it but for some reason, I have never been able to fully let go. To be honest, I thought I had but clearly, I was mistaken. It has taken me by surprise.
You can’t be with another person for as long as Steve and I without your fair share of ups and downs. There have been times where we have questioned whether we should still be together but there has always been an undeniable connection. We have both agreed though that the accident has been a huge jolt and has made us realise how much we love eachother and that we took a lot of things for granted.
Steve’s response to my accident and the subsequent months of recovery have proven to me that our love is unconditional. Nobody knows how they will respond to a traumatic event until it happens, why would you?
I don’t want people to think that we have been on the verge of splitting. That isn’t the case at all and to be honest, even through the rough times I don’t think there was ever any question that we wouldn’t fight through it. Every now and then though, it’s easy to lose track of what matters.
I am ready to move forward and put the accident behind me. Yes, I still have a long way to go with my recovery and I defintely have some unanswered questions regarding my pain. Despite this, I have a lot to be thankful for and I need to make the most of it.
